Talk: Java in Space: From the Classroom to the Stars!
Space has always been a powerful way to inspire people to learn science and technology. Initiatives such as Raspberry Pi and Astro Pi allow students to go beyond abstract programming exercises and build experiments connected to real space exploration.
But where is Java in this story?
In this talk, we'll explore \*\*Java in Space\*\*, an open-source community initiative that aims to make Java a first-class option for Raspberry Pi, Sense HAT, Astro Pi, and space education.
We'll see how Java and Pi4J can interact with real hardware and sensors, and how emulators and AI can make these technologies more accessible to students and educators.
But this is about more than hardware. It's about rethinking how we introduce Java to the next generation and bringing together developers, makers, and educators to build open-source tools and educational resources for physical computing and STEM.
Come discover how Java can move beyond the server, into the classroom, onto a Raspberry Pi — and perhaps one day, into space.
