Irish JUG Members,
I am half Irish (O'Dunne) but look German, so I don't think that's going to win me any points with you guys. I thought it gave me the right to join you, however, after trying all morning to reach your President with this message. Please know that this is the only JUG to which I belong at the monment, and I would very like to remain a member permanently. JUGs have been very supportive of my work in the past.
My name is Doug Dunn. I just launched a new Java fundamentals wiki at JavaSpec.org which serves to introduce a radically new approach to the publication of computer books. Support is pouring in from non-trivial JUG leaders all over the world, so the lack of attention in Ireland has been particularly disappointing. I know how geared is your culture to producing top-notch programmers and would like to think I have an audience there.
My work on Java fundamentals at the now defunct www/javarules.com has been part of the Java scene since 1996. Addison-Wesley published the first six chapters of my work in 2001, and some of my work has appeared in the Java Developer's Journal. The whole story is at About JavaSpec.org.
By the way, Dr. Neal Gafter, who as I am sure you know worked on the javac compiler while at Sun, became the first JavaSpec.org donor last week. (I think I've always been a source of amusement for him.) Plus I was just written up in the Java Lobby.
Please let me now if you have any questions.
Regards,
Doug Dunn
